Many types of procedures/techniques are used in blepharoplasty or eyelid surgery.

Types Of Blephaoplasty Based On Why It Is Performed:

1. Functional Blepharoplasty: When the drooping eyelids are causing problems with a patient’s vision, a functional blepharoplasty is required.

2. Cosmetic Blepharoplasty: Cosmetic eyelid surgery, also known as cosmetic blepharoplasty, is a type of surgery that aims to improve the appearance, function, and attractiveness of the eye when the droopiness of the eyelids, sagging skin on the eyelids, or other concerns impede the beauty of one’s eyes.

Types Of Blephaoplasty Based On Where It Is Performed:

1. Upper Eyelid Blepharoplasty: Upper blepharoplasty may be required for functional reasons. For example; if upper eyelid fat, orbicularis hypertrophy (enlargement), skin laxity, or lash ptosis cause field of vision issues. Upper eyelid surgery may also be used to improve one’s appearance by eliminating concerns that come with age like the skin around the eyes becoming thinner, the eyelids beginning to sag, and fat turning into bumps around the eyelid.

2. Lower Eyelid Blepharoplasty: Lower eyelid surgery, often known as lower eyelid blepharoplasty, is used to correct aesthetic problems. Lower eyelid blepharoplasty or lower eyelid surgery removes factors such as fat bulges in the lower eyelid, extra sagging skin, and helps to enhance one’s appearance dramatically.

What Is The Procedure Of Blepharoplasty?

• Depending on the extent of the procedure, blepharoplasty usually lasts from one to three hours. If you’re having blepharoplasty done on all four eyelids, then Dr. Sudhakar Prasad usually works on the upper lids before moving on to the lower ones.

• Dr. Sudhakar Prasad typically makes incisions following the lines of your eyes, in the creases between your upper and lower lids, and just under your lashes. Incisions may extend into the outer corners of your eye.

• After working through these incisions, skin is separated from underlying fat and muscle, removing excess fat, and often trimming sagging skin and muscle. The incisions are sewn up with very fine stitches.

• If you have pockets of fat beneath your lower lids, but don’t need to have any skin taken off, Dr. Sudhakar Prasad may perform a transconjunctival blepharoplasty. With this procedure, an incision is made inside the lower lid of your eye, leaving no visible scarring. It is usually performed when treating younger patients with thicker and elastic skin.

• After the surgery, you’ll probably be given an eye ointment and a dressing may be applied to your eyes. You may feel some discomfort when the anesthetic wears off, but you’ll be able to control any discomfort with the recommended pain medication. Recovery After Blepharoplasty Surgery

• For several days, Dr. Sudhakar Prasad might advise you to keep your head high and apply cold compresses to reduce swelling and bruising. (Bruising varies from person to person: it reaches its maximum during the first week and generally lasts anywhere from two weeks to a month; however, it can last up to three months.)
• You’ll be instructed how to clean your eyes, which could be gummy for a week or more. Many doctors recommend eye drops since your eyelids may feel dry and your eyes may burn or itch when you start using the patch.
• Blurry vision, double vision, and sensitivity to light are common symptoms that can last for weeks. Excessive tearing, sensitivity to light, and temporary changes in eyesight, such as blurring or double vision may also be experienced.
• Dr. Sudhakar Prasad will watch your progress extremely carefully for the first seven to ten days. The sutures will be removed two days to a week after surgery. The swelling and discoloration around your eyes will gradually decrease as the stitches are removed, and you’ll begin to feel better.
• After two or three days, you should be able to read or watch television. However, you will not be able to wear contact lenses for approximately two weeks, and they may feel uncomfortably tight for a time.
• In seven to ten days, most people feel ready to go out in public (and back to work). By then, depending on your rate of recovery and Dr. Sudhakar Prasad ’s instructions, you may be able to conceal the bruising with makeup.
• You might be susceptible to sunshine, wind, and other irritants for weeks on end, so when you go out, don’t forget your sunglasses and a sunblock formulated for the eyes.
• Dr. Sudhakar Prasad will most likely recommend limiting your activities for three to five days and avoiding more strenuous activities for around three weeks. It’s critical to avoid things that raise your blood pressure, such as bending, lifting, and intense sports. You could also be advised not to drink alcohol since it leads to fluid retention.
